Releasing The Pheasants

We turned the birds loose on Saturday before we left. Each day when I would go to feed and water there would be a few less birds, they were flying out of the top windows. So it made our decision easier on when it would be time to let them go! We had quite the adventure trying to "herd" pheasants. I have never herded anything that could fly before. We really didn't think they could fly that well yet actually. We separated out the two turkeys and left them in one side. We backed the trailer up to the door and blocked all of the gaps and holes that they could crawl through, but it never occurred to us that they would just fly out the top! So they did! Out the windows out the door, they just started flying! We only got 12 in the trailer, the rest we released at Grandpas Place. Which is fine, Ryan just had a really nice spot all picked out for them North of our house; The rest of the releasing went perfect, they flew right into the willows with out a problem. It was a fun little project, time will tell if we have actually done any good in increasing the population or not. The turkeys are much lower maintenance now, they were so funny trying to act like pheasants, when I would go in to take care of them all of the pheasants would scatter and hide, the turkeys would try and scatter and were all worried and would run right to me. Silly birds! They should be ready just in time for Thanksgiving!
