Potato Harvest

I saw the first load of potatoes go by the house this morning.

103_1147

It has been a long first day but I think pretty good.  Only a few break downs.  We went down for an hour to pick clods and help out but most of the time we were there they were broken down so we didn’t get to help much.

Jaci and Tayson escaped their yard and came and helped for a minute too.

The Girls

We wanted to try out a new hair do so the girls slept with their hair all twisted up for the night.  Emma had 1 more bun then Ashley and not all of her hair was done in them.  She has SO MUCH hair!  Emma was being a silly goof!

103_1143103_1144

This is how it turned out.  It was really frizzy and poofy so we tied it all back in pony tails.  It turned out cute and they liked it.

It’s Time

Now this is starting to look serious……

Look What I Can See!

That way over in the trees is Sara’s new house.  We can see it now from our house now that it has the trusses up.  It is really moving along, I hope it all goes this fast!

103_1134

We had heard they had stairs so we went to check them out, they look great!

103_1135

I can see our house from their second floor this was taken from the bottom floor, you can see our grain bins.

In Limbo

I feel like I am just in limbo lately.  I am struggling with all of my kids being in school, well all of my big kids.  I cant believe how much help they really were.  I keep wondering who is going to take out the garbage when it cant wait until after school!  ME, I guess!  I haven’t really ever had this hard of a time, I think we are definitely moving into a new phase of life, once again!

The kids are all loving school.  Justin came home yesterday and told me he can read now.  He read me a little story from his teacher and was quite proud of himself (he had it all memorized).  I do love to see the light come on when the kids learn to read it is great.

Emma came home and asked me what “flirting” means.  REALLY?  in third grade.  Her teacher was the fifth grade teacher and I think she uses language more appropriate for older kids.  Neither one of the girls knew what it meant and I am OK with that!

Ashley LOVES her teacher, she had her in first grade also.  They learned about flags the first week of school and they get to take down and put up the flag at school.  She is excited because she already knows how to do that.  She also brought home math homework that I struggled with!  I had to go back and read the chapter in order to help her finish it.

Last night everyone had homework and it was hard to help everyone at the same time.  I will be glad when Ryan is home in the evening to help do the hard math!

Sunday Shots

I was so proud of myself for making the Sunday treats all by myself, then Ryan reminded me that he grated the zucchini and Emma mixed it all, so I took a picture of the zucchini brownies (Aunt Lana’s recipe)  that I thought I made all by myself but didn’t.  It is rare thing for me to do the cooking or baking alone anymore, its nice!

We had our afternoon game of baseball.

103_1126

We love our Sundays, we had a great time.  Claire bear slept from 5:30 on, she didn’t wake up once until morning, she missed dinner and all of the fun.  I guess we all need our day of rest!  Look how long she is, where did my baby go?

We (Ryan and the kids) moved the pasture line for the last time this summer.  FINALLY!  We were really dragging on moving that line!  The only problem is that means my yard water goes off too, it is to early to be done with yard water.  I'm torn, I don’t want to move that pasture but I don’t want to drag hoses to water the lawn, poor me!

The talks in Sacrament meeting were great.  I am going to try to do better on attending the temple.  In Sunday school we learned to just love each other.  Don’t judge.  I am excited to work more on that.  The kids are practicing for the primary program next week.  They all almost have their parts memorized.  I love the primary program it is so fun to hear all of the songs and listen to the kids.

Sad Big Boy

I put Rett in the high chair and he thought he was going to get something to eat, but I thought he was looking so big so I took a few pictures and then,

103_1079

I got distracted, like I do and he didn’t think that was ok

103_1080

He quickly reminded me to feed him.

103_1081

I just had to take a few more, he is so cute!

Harvesting The Garden

We have spent the morning harvesting and canning some of the garden.  I am tired already.  I am so thankful for my girls though.  Ashley is so domestic and wants to do lots of gardening, cooking, baking, sewing.  She is really ambitious and Emma and I get drug along for the ride!  I was not feeling motivated at all to can this year but hopefully the bug has finally bitten me.

103_1089

The strawberries are so pretty, I cant wait until next year we should have lots and lots to eat!

103_1091

Ashley’s giant lone sunflower.

103_1090

I have really enjoyed my garden boxes.  They are fantastic!  It has been so easy to manage and keep the weeds down.  We really love them.  Everything has grown really well.  This has been my best garden in 11 years!  Here was this mornings harvest.

103_1099

We cut up all of that zucchini and put it in the freezer to make that yummy zucchini soup that we love.  I have got to figure out how to make pickles, I have never had more than 5 cucumbers total so we have always just eaten them and not canned any.  The green beans haven’t been that great and I have some ready, but not enough to make a batch.  The tomatoes are loaded, but green, I hope they don’t get frozen before they turn.

103_1098

103_1097

Ashley took some pictures of the zinnias.  They have been so fun, I have had the pack of seeds forever and finally just put them in one of the boxes and they grew really well.  I need to transplant them to a flower bed this fall.

103_1112

Shannon brought us cases and cases of  groceries from a case lot sale.  It was taller then Bear!  The girls and I (and Justin) love organizing the downstairs pantry so we had fun doing that this morning also.  I would like to go pick corn and freeze it today but I think my ambition is running low,  peaches are supposed to be here this week to can also, oh joy!  No, we really will be glad to have our shelves full going into winter, that is always nice.

Friday Night Lights

We went to the first home game last night.  I like the first games of the season because the weather is still warm.  It was a beautiful evening to be out.  Rett enjoyed his first game ever, he was a good boy the whole time just watching everything.

103_1085

Justin brought his own ball so he could play too.  There was no shortage of other little boys to play with, it looked like the whole town came out to support the Tigers!

103_1086

Warming back up after half time,

103_1087103_1088

It was a quick game, we got mercy ruled in the third quarter.  I don’t like the quick games because then I don’t get to visit with everyone (the real reason why I go).  Ryan got to come with us too which was nice.  He hasn’t been to a football game in three years because he is usually to busy harvesting.  The major harvesting should start on Monday for us, I hope we are ready for this!
