Feeding Cows

I volunteered myself to help Ryan feed cows.  He does not like feeding, I love feeding off the back of the pickup.  It is so fun to see all the cows line up and to get to do “easy” work with Ryan.  Plus I get a little break from the kids and house.  Ryan drives by the house to the cows so I hop in and go.  I can leave Wynn with the girls since I am just down the road.  Works out great!

Moving Cows

Now that the farming has wrapped up the ranching gets into full swing from being neglected most of the year!  We have moved cows more this month than we have all summer!  We always enjoy a chance to all work together.  The kids were in school this morning and were sad to miss the cattle drive.  Rett didn’t miss it though.

Chore Time

As the weather is getting colder, chores are getting harder and harder to want to do!  But it brings my heart joy to see my kids out there working!  Not happy, and arguing, but doing it!

I can still remember hauling 5 gallon buckets of something, probably grain to feed calves at our dairy and I was little then.  I hope they are learning that they can do hard things!  (notice the escape artist aka lawn mower in the back)

Moving Cows

With all the men in harvest the women and children got left to move cows.  We have one hired guy, Daniel, who was in charge of the group.  Poor man!  He gathered them all and we pushed!

It stared pouring rain on us and all of the cowboys got in the car.  Thankfully we had Skip Uncle Bobby’s dog to drive them the rest of the way because we wimped out!  Skippy is a good cow dog!  It was fun to watch him work.

Chore Time

Chore time has turned into fiddler on the roof!  These kids like to climb up on top of their calf pens while their calves suck down their bottles.  Even Rett can climb up, what am I saying, of course Rett can climb up on top!  It isnt a good thing!

I imagine they are having their morning “coffee talk.”  They are determined to each raise two calves this year, and a family calf named Lagoon, to pay for next years trip.
